¡El Pueblo, Que Grita, Siempre Será Maldita!

For those whose Spanish is a bit rusty, the above slogan translates as "the people who scream will forever remain cursed," …… with ignorance, to be specific. I thought of that phrase while reading this article posted at the San Antonio Express-News website.

As is far too common on college campuses these days, a lecture at a San Antonio-area university about a serious issue facing this country was interrupted by hard left types who claim to value free speech, but in fact seek to protect only that speech with which they agree.

The aforementioned lecture was given by Chris Simcox, founder of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps. Simcox was speaking at the invitation of the Young Conservatives of Texas, whose members defended him against the baseless, predictable taunts of "racism" hurled throughout his speech. From the article:

"He's [Simcox] not racist, he cares about the border and he cares about America," said Laura Morales, executive director of the young conservatives group. "It was the great philosopher John Locke who told us if the government is not providing for you, you have the right to do something for yourself.

As denizens of the comment sections of Cathy's World and The Festering Swamp are well aware, I have a particular interest in the illegal immigration/border issue. I am originally from one of the border cities that have borne the brunt of the recent sharp increase in border violence: Laredo, Texas – and I am also of Hispanic heritage from my mother's side of the family – a family that was among the original founders of Laredo in 1755. It disturbs me to no end to see my birthplace torn apart by shootings, kidnappings, and other related crimes simply because the federal government has abrogated its responsibility to police our border with Mexico.

In addition, the false accusations of racism are particularly enraging. Is it racist to want to see law and order enforced, to demand that one's fellow citizens (or relatives) be protected from criminals? Absolutely not. But don't bother attempting to reason with the PC, pro-open borders crowd. They don't want to listen; something Mr. Simcox learned the hard way:

"Thank God I taught kindergarten for the past 13 years, it helped me prepare for this kind of crap," Simcox said.
