An American Dream
For Independence Day, I thought I'd post this video of "An American Dream" by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Linda Ronstadt (who isn't pictured) supplies the background vocals:
The song reminds me of summer vacations spent down on the Gulf Coast at Corpus Christi and Padre Island. It never fails to put me in a good mood.
As we celebrate the 232nd birthday of our nation, the usual bozos from the left like Chris Satullo of the Philadelphia Inquirer say America doesn't deserve to celebrate its birthday because of our "atrocities." Yet, despite all of our government's supposed iniquities, Mr. Satullo is able to pontificate from his pulpit without fear of imprisonment or even fear of civil lawsuits, which is a lot more than our neighbors in Canada can hope for these days.
Let the hand-wringers pontificate all they want. Their collective hand-wringing amounts to little more than tales told by idiots, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing but their own hateful ignorance.
While freedom may arguably be God's gift to humanity, it is a gift that has been denied to most people over the course of human history. I count my blessings that my ancestors had the foresight to immigrate to the New World centuries ago, that our country's founding fathers established a strong constitutional republic that enshrines liberty as our highest political ideal, and that through two centuries Americans have been willing to fight to preserve that liberty at all costs.
God bless America, and Happy Independence Day.
