Mamma Mia!

The Democratic National Convention begins tomorrow, but I will not be watching any of the media coverage of it. Rather, I will try my best to impose as much of a media blackout as possible through Thursday, reading only the coverage of it that may appear at Hot Air and other conservative websites and blogs that I peruse.

Speaking of Democrats, up until today I haven't mentioned it at all on this blog, but I can't help but be amused by the train wreck that is the John Edwards-Rielle Hunter scandal. This is a story that might have been concluded within a couple of days had the Silky Pony admitted everything up front, up to and including his fathering of Rielle's baby and misuse of campaign funds. However, since the details are going to have to be peeled away layer-by-layer by the National Enquirer, this may continue to be an embarrassment to Democrats for the remainder of the 2008 campaign season. As I said a few days ago over at Nancy Rommelmann's blog, it seems as if this whole scandal has been played out according to a script, with the intent of causing maximum damage to the Democratic Party. Not that I'm complaining, mind you (but Chet Edwards certainly is).

And speaking of bizarre decisions, I'm still mystified by Barack Obama's choice of Sen. Joe Biden to be his Vice Presidential running-mate. By choosing Biden, Obama picked someone whose an even bigger egotistical windbag than he is. Remember this moment from 20 years ago?

Not only Biden brag that he had a higher intelligence quotient than his questioner, but then went on to tell outright lies about his academic record. What has he done twenty years since, other than make an even bigger fool of himself? Remember his Iraq balkanization plan? What a joke. Is this supposed to be change we can believe in?

If he picks a good running mate (like Sarah Palin), this election should be John McCain's to lose.

Rather than watching the Denver donkeyfest, I'll be finishing up my re-reading of Tom Kratman's Caliphate and hopefully have a review up by mid-week. Happy Monday to all!

Update (8/26):

Via Hot Air, evidently there were some fireworks at the Democratic Convention yesterday, but not from any politicians! In a segment where Chris Matthews was speaking with fellow MSNBC host Joe Scarborough, uber-tool Keith Olbermann interrupted saying "Jesus, Joe, why don't you get a shovel?!" Here's a clip featuring some great commentary by John Gibson:
