The proprietor of the ZombieTime blog celebrated Victory in Iraq Day this past Saturday (November 22), and justifiably so. Though the mainstream media have chosen to ignore it, our victory in Iraq has been decisive and unmistakable. Where once the country struggled under Saddam Hussein's dictatorship and Islamist terrorism, it is now a relatively peaceful, if imperfect, democracy.
And who do we have to thank for that? First and foremost, we must thank the men and women who have selflessly served in our armed services, willing to travel half-way around the world to a desolate location that many, if not most, Americans could not point out on a map (thanks, public schools!) to help a long-suffering people.

In addition, President George W. Bush deserves our respect and appreciation for having stood by our armed forces and the Iraqi people, even when it was no longer politically expedient to do so. That is the mark of a true leader - one who does the right thing even in the face of overwhelming public disapproval. We will soon miss having such a courageous, forthright man in office, I believe. But then again, Mencken said it best: "Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard." Enjoy your HopeChange prophet, you damned ingrates.
