The Stupidity of the Anointed
On Sunday, I came across one of the most idiotic statements I've read in quite some time:
"Those immigrants didn’t come here in order to be lawbreakers; they broke a law in order to come here."That sentence is from this column by Boston Globe columnist Jeff Jacoby - who is allegedly a conservative, much in the same way that the elitist bird-brain Kathleen Parker is a "conservative", I suspect. Jacoby urges his fellow conservatives to get over the systematic abuse of American taxpayers by illegal aliens, in this case illegal alien students, who, in some states -despite their lack of citizenship - are afforded in-state tuition at colleges and universities while legal American citizens from out-of-state must pay out-of-state rates at those same institutions.
That situation is, of course, outrageous and unacceptable. But it is the status quo in our society - where criminal activity is allowed to proceed unchecked while law-abiding Americans are systematically stripped of their liberties and civil rights at the behest of politicians who value the power acquired by way of cheaply-purchased votes over freedom and the rule of law.
I rather like the suggestion posted yesterday by Eric Blair in the comments to this post over at Patterico's Pontifications:
I think I know how to make the Left go crazy. That is an excellent plan - would that our self-appointed betters in Washington had such common sense.
Step #1: Make a policy statement that we will treat illegal immigrants precisely as Mexico treats their own illegal immigrants.
Step #2: When the Left announces that we should be “better” than that, we immediately accuse them of being racist imperialists.
Step #3: Watch their heads explode, like in “Scanners.”

In other news, sorry for the lack of posting lately. I've been really busy with career-related matters during the past several weeks, and on Tuesday I'm heading down to San Antonio to spend Thanksgiving with my family. Hopefully I'll be able to resume blogging on a more regular basis in about a month, when I will have some more time to myself over Christmas vacation.
